Cheer fund 2016

Running your home is a costly business. There’s electricity and water to pay, food and other groceries and home maintenance. If you have children, there are also clothes including school uniforms and of course, school fees. At Grahamstown Child Welfare’s Ikhaya Losizo Cluster Homes it’s no different – only it’s not two or three kids, but 15. Next year, 2017, is the centenary of the founding of Grahamstown Child Welfare and to celebrate the valuable work this organisation does, Grocott’s Mail will again be dedicating our annual Christmas Cheer Fund to it. There's another reason: Rhodes University students are in the spotlight, for some residents negatively, because of damage to infrastructure during the current fees protests. We'd like our town, and the students, to know that the first Ikhaya Losizo home was built in 2007 with money raised by Rhodes University students. Child Welfare Grahamstown is among 150 affiliates of Child Welfare SA. It operates as a non-profit organisation in the Grahamstown area for the welfare of "children in need of care and protection” as per the Children’s Act 38/2005. Our readers have a chance to be part of the good work the organisation does for our town’s children by donating to the Grocott’s Mail Christmas Cheer Fund. You can hand in your donation to our offices at 100 High Street, or deposit it directly into the Christmas Cheer account: Account Name: Christmas Cheer GBS Bank Bank: First National Bank Branch FNB Grahamstown Account number: 5232 200 3436
