Kickstart healthy habits

  • It’s that time of year again (like it or not). Studies show that the most common New Year’s resolutions are all about staying healthy and fit. There are many different ways to define health, but we all need gentle reminders and help holding ourselves accountable.

We're rounding up our favorite healthy habits to try out, and some services that can help you see them through. Good luck!

    Meditate once a day

The science is in: meditation is good for your brain in all kinds of ways. But ironically, the more you need it, the harder it can be to slow down and take the time to breathe and sit quietly.

Walk for 300 minutes each week

According to the CDC, 300 minutes of moderate activity a week is a great activity target for most adults. That translates to about 7 or 8 thousands steps a day. Using an activity tracker, such as a Fitbit, is a simple way to measure your progress. Need an incentive to get up and moving? Connect your savings goals for some extra motivation to get those steps in.

    Sleep 8 hours a night

We’ve all been there: you plan to turn in early and then all of a sudden it’s 2 am, and Netflix is asking you if you’re still watching. Sleep impacts every aspect of our health (not to mention our work and relationships). The first step to building a better sleep schedule is understanding your personal patterns: Does it take you a long time to fall asleep? Are you waking up in the middle of the night? Wearables that work with IFTTT, like ZEEQ Smart Pillow by REM-Fit or Withings Sleep, can sync your sleep logs to a spreadsheet so you can easily look at the big picture before you start painting a new one.
