How to automate Bluesky
  • If you're active on Bluesky, you may be looking for a way to crosspost your content from one platform to any of the other microblogging tools like Twitter. The good news is, it's possible – with the help of IFTTT.

IFTTT stands for 'If This Then That', and it's an online platform that allows you to trigger actions based on other actions. With IFTTT, you can create Applets – simple rules which will cause one action (such as posting to Twitter) when another event is triggered (such as publishing a post on Bluesky).

    Steps to automating Bluesky

To automate Bluesky, you will use the public Bluesky RSS feed on your profile. Add that RSS feed url to our RSS feed trigger and connect Bluesky with 1000 other services on IFTTT!

    1. Select the RSS Feed Trigger
    2. Enter your Bluesky RSS feed into the trigger
    3. Select an action from the 1000 services on IFTTT
    4. Add all the relevant information from your Bluesky post to send to your action

How to find your Bluesky RSS Feed

To begin, you'll need the RSS feed URL for your Blueky account. You can simply copy and paste the link to a user's profile and add "/rss" to the end of it. For example, here's the CEO's public profile.

Enter your Bluesky RSS feed into the RSS Feed trigger

Once you have that, head over to IFTTT. You'll need to create an account if you don't already have one.

Click on 'Create', then '+This', and search for the RSS channel. Paste your Bluesky feed URL into the box and then click 'Create Trigger'.

    Choose an action

Your Applet will trigger everytime you post to Bluesky. Now you need to think, where do I want to send this information? Do I want to add all of my Bluesky posts to a Google Sheet or also cross post them to Twitter? Do I want to automate Bluesky with LinkedIn or send them to Discord as well? In this next example, we will show you how to connect Bluesky to Twitter.

How to connect Bluesky and Twitter

Click 'That' and search for Twitter as your action. You can then choose which action you want – such as post a tweet. In the box provided, add all of the content variables you can get from the feed. Create the action and then click 'Create Action'.

Finally, click 'Create' and your Applet will be active. Now whenever you publish a post on Bluesky, it will automatically be posted to Twitter too! This can save you time if you're an active user of both platforms, and help you reach a wider audience.
